On the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations it is a great pleasure to review the important role and responsibility shared by the Operational Technical Training (OTT) Section.
The CTE has been imparting civil aviation related training to airline personnel by qualified ground and flying instructors, examiners and check pilots.While the flying crew are flying the aircraft carefully to transport the air passengers safely from place to place, the ground instructors, their classroom mentors , take the total responsibility of making them fit for the profession.
The ground technical instructors of OTT impart theoretical ground class room training. It makes the trainees to visualise and realise the theory described in the manufacturer operations manuals and provides sufficient knowledge for operating the aircraft .Apart from this, various system oriented tests are conducted.
Then the fixed base simulator training is imparted to the trainees. In addition, practical exposure is also given so that they can be confidently handle different emergencies with acquired knowledge.

From the day of inception of the CTE , the OTT shouldered various responsibilities to improve the standards to that of the best in the world.Various sectional heads dedicated their services for the cause.
Recognising the administrative capabilities and commitments of late Shri J K Mehra, the earlier OTT’s in charge, the Government of India offered him the Chairman’s post of NPCC.He was also appointed as one of Directors on board for Indian airlines!
It’s a great honour for the section! His guidance and blessings inspired the section.

In the golden Jubilee period, the OTT section is headed by Sri B G Deokule,Dy GM(OTT) , M Tech (Aero) from IIT Mumbai. He is thoroughly equipped with the best know how knowledge of looking after the section.
He has an excellent and experienced team of Technical Instructors and technical staff.
The entire needs of the DGCA required Operational Technical Training , for the pilots/cabin crew/Flight Operations staff of NACIL(I) and for other Airlines of national and international is imparted by OTT at Central Training Establishment (CTE), Hyderabad.
It is a feather in their cap to say proudly that even the Indian Air Force (IAF) VVIP flight’s Pilots get trained here for their Refresher and Endorsements.
The DGCA prescribed and approved courses include : (1) Basic Technical training (2)Induction/ Endorsement/ abinitio trainings (3) Refresher /Recurrent trainings (4) Check Pilot trainings (4) Corrective and remedial trainings and (5) specialized trainings like- EGPWS / ETOPS/ RVSM /CAT II, CAT IIIA,CAT IIIB procedures/TCAS/ DGR/differential training courses.
The section also liaise with : • Aircraft manufacturers on operational documentation, clarification and changes in the SOPs • DGCA for approval of the various courses, the Instructors and various manuals • Engineering Dept for Modification status so that any change in operational procedures are communicated to the pilots for safe operation of the aircraft. • Flight Safety Dept to study the reports of incidents / accidents. Necessary Operational recommendation is implemented to avoid recurrence of incidents / accidents. • Preparation / Revision of Pilots training manuals, DGR Manuals, Cabin Crew Training Manuals etc. • Preparing documentation to meet IOSA guidelines.

Elaborate training aids in class rooms and mockups are available. As a result, the consolidated courses consisting of both theoretical and practical are imparted entirely by OTT Section.The practical training includes various emergencies like crew incapacitation, emergency evacuation, ditching, fire fighting, cabin smoke etc. Utmost care is taken on these so that the passengers will feel confident of getting rescued in emergencies too!

Shri Rajiv Gandhi, our ex-Prime Minister got endorsed for his HS-748 and B737 trainings while he was in Indian Airlines.
