Rita K asked:

How does the typical British auto mechanic learn his job? Would you say most mechanics in the UK learn their trade through a formal apprenticeship, or do most learn it simply through an informal on the job training system? Or do the majority of British automobile mechanics learn this trade by taking formal classes at a trade school or a technical college? How many years does the it take to learn this trade?
