Jane Shepherd asked:

The next damp proofing training course from the Property Care Association (PCA) is being held in October.

Taking place over one and a half days, the Damp Proofing Technicians’ Training Course runs from Tuesday, October 20.

Topics covered include health and safety, DPC installation in theory and practice, high and low pressure injection, transfusion and injection mortar.

A study of wood boring insects, roof voids and floor treatment and fungal decay - including dry and wet rot - is also undertaken. There is also an optional exam that can be taken on the afternoon of the second day.

Open to PCA members and non members, the course is being held at the dedicated new training centre opened by the PCA in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, earlier this year.

PCA training serves the needs of training in damp, as well as courses such as the specialist Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) and the Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatment (CSRT).

Other courses focus on timber resin repair training, cavity wall tie repairs training, how to measure dampness in buildings and condensation training.

Each year, the Property Care Association (PCA) trains hundreds of people from property professionals to DIY enthusiasts.

Noted for its training and technical expertise, The Property Care Association (PCA) represents the UK’s structural waterproofing, wood preservation, damp-proofing, flood remediation and structural repair sectors.

It incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years.

PCA training is a key role of the trade body and underpins its reputation as a major educational provider.

Yasmin Chopin, PCA Executive Director, said:  “The PCA is recognised across the UK for its technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of the building preservation sector.

“That reputation is built upon the Association’s well-established training programme.

“It is not necessary to be a member of the PCA to access all courses. Staff from a wide range of organisations have benefited from PCA courses including estate agents, architects, social housing managers and surveyors.”

Training can also be delivered at clients’ own premises as an alternative to travelling to the Huntingdon centre. The PCA is also happy to make the training suite available for hire to other training providers.

The complete PCA Training Prospectus 2009 can be ordered by contacting eleana@property-care.org. Full details of the PCA training programme can also be found at the Association’s website.

Notes To Editors

Noted for its training and technical expertise, The Property Care Association (PCA) represents the UK’s structural waterproofing, wood preservation, damp-proofing, flood remediation and structural repair sectors.

It incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years.

The PCA is a member of TrustMark the scheme supported by the Government, to help property owners find reliable and trustworthy tradespeople to make home improvements.

Its contractor members are all carefully vetted before being awarded membership - and are then subject to rigorous auditing procedures once admitted to the Association.

As well as delivering a trusted repair procedure, PCA members are able to carry out specialist surveys as part of the house-buying procedure  to identify potential problems – as well as a range of other services  designed to preserve and protect homes and buildings across the UK.

To find a PCA member log on to www.property-care.org and select the ‘Find A Member’ service.
